OUR STORY

Our desire is to breed very correct miniature horses that can compete nationally in both halter and performance classes. It is our belief that beauty is more than just the standing outward appearance. We feel strongly that intellect, way of going, athletic ability and temperament are equally important. We strive to produce "More Than Just Another Pretty Face".

Everyone wants to know how we "got into miniatures". I guess it was at the 1993 Houston Live Stock Show. I said I wanted to go watch the little miniatures and Al said he wanted to look at more important things, like trucks and tractors and farm stuff. He should never have let me watch the minis – and certainly not by myself! Four hours later, I knew I had to know more.

We visited several local breeders, asked hundreds of questions, and took lots of video. We laid out a plan to buy three good quality mares, hopefully all bred to well known stallions. Then I saw a young stallion that stole my heart. He was blue – yes, BLUE! I had never seen a blue roan before. The plan was put on hold as Lazy H Dark Storm’s Blue Indigo, "Indy", became our first purchase.

We did not have a trailer, much less a place to keep Indy. But Dusty Hartzog’s Rocking EK Training Center in Waller, Texas was not too far away, and for the next three years, Indy and the rest of our growing herd called the Rocking EK home. Dusty and her family provided information, guidance, great equine care, and lots of encouragement for our emerging business. By the time our barn was finally built, the herd numbered seven.

Since that time, we have chosen to grow slowly, by carefully selecting and adding one or two horses to our herd each year. Our bloodlines include:

BUCKAROO
ORION-LIGHT VAN’T HUTTENEST
ROWDY
LITTLE KING’S NAPOLEON
FISHER’S JIM DANDY
BOND MASTER JESTER
SLIGO
DARK STORM

Our stallions can boast many National Championships and Registry of Merit honors by both themselves and their sires. The mares have been chosen for feminine beauty, breathtaking movement and strong pedigrees.

The first foal of our own breeding, WCF MP’S MAIN EVENT, is a high headed black and white filly with a "look at Me" attitude. We were thrilled when Mandy won National Champion Junior Mare at the 1999 Pinto Nationals. (Thank you, Gerald Wells!)

SAYER MOSER

In 1996, we had the pleasure of meeting SAYER MOSER, who was then 13. We had seen Sayer compete previously and were very impressed with her horsemanship skill in all youth classes. To our delight, Sayer lived only 10 minutes from our new barn. When she asked if she could show one of our horses, we were only too glad to say "YES!!".

Sayer and Cross Country’s Raven formed a team that his hard to beat, winning at the 1996 AMHA National Show Reserve National Champion Youth Obstacle Driving, Reserve National Champion Youth Jumper and Top Ten Honors in Youth Single Pleasure Driving. Sayer and Raven hold the 1997, 1998 and 1999 Pinto National Championship in Youth Showmanship.

OUR FACILITY

We designed our facility to maximize comfort for both the horses and people, and also to minimize required manpower to maintain the facility. The BARN is cinder block construction with gabled roof and ridge vents for ventilation. The roll up doors on three sides and large windows with steel mesh insets provide additional ventilation.

The stalls are 12’ X 12’ and can be temporarily divided in half as the need arises. All stalls have thick rubber mats as does the wash rack. The mats in the stalls are covered with shavings for leg and hoof cushioning and ease in cleaning. The fly spray system, large lights and numerous fans provide comfort for both horses and humans. The foaling monitoring system is connected to our TV system in the house.

Willow Crest Farm is located approximately 35 miles North West of Houston just off of Highway 290 in Cypress, Texas.
